Frequently Asked Questions

What industries do you specialize in?

We work with every type of industry, our specialty is producing excellent die casting parts regardless of the industry it is for.

We work with industries such as Automotive, Aerospace, Gaming, Electronics, Medical, Consumer Goods, Industrial Equipment, and many more.

Are there limitations in the type of metal used?

Die casting is primarily used for non-ferrous metals like aluminum, zinc, and magnesium. Certain alloys may be unsuitable for die casting due to their melting points or flow characteristics.

At Kenwalt Die Casting we work with aluminum and zinc only.

Is die casting good for large production quantities?

Yes, die casting is highly suitable for large quantities. Here are some reasons why:

1. Automation Potential: The die casting process can be easily automated, further enhancing production efficiency and reducing labor costs.

2. High Production Rates: Die casting allows for rapid production cycles, making it efficient for manufacturing large volumes of parts.

3. Consistency and Precision: The process produces parts with high dimensional accuracy and consistent quality, which is essential for mass production.

4. Cost-Effectiveness: While the initial costs for creating the die can be high, the cost per unit decreases significantly as production volume increases, making it economical for large quantities.

5. Reduced Waste: Die casting minimizes material waste compared to other manufacturing methods, contributing to lower overall costs in mass production.

How does the die casting process work?

A really simplified version of the die casting process would be the following:

1. Design: Create part and die designs.

2. Prototype: Develop prototypes to test designs.

3. Die Manufacturing: Make the die from high-quality aluminum or zinc.

4. Setup: Install the die in the casting machine and apply a release agent.

5. Melting & Injection: Melt metal and inject it into the die under pressure.

6. Cooling & Ejection: Allow the metal to solidify, then eject the finished part.

7. Trimming & Cleaning: Trim excess material and clean the parts for the finishing touches.

7. Finishing: Powder coat, chrome plate or add any finishing touches the parts require.

8. Quality Control: Inspect and test parts for quality. Quality control is done in each step of the process. QC is one of the most important things in die casting.

9. Packaging & Delivery: Package parts for shipment to customers and manage the shipping process.

Does Kenwalt have any certifications?

Kenwalt Die Casting is ISO 9001 certified, which focuses on quality management systems, ensuring consistent product quality and customer satisfaction.

We are also certified by NADCA (North American Die Casting Association). Being certified by NADCA means that a die-casting manufacturer meets specific industry standards and best practices in the die-casting process.

Finally, Kenwalt is ITAR certified. Overall, being ITAR certified signifies that a die caster can responsibly handle defence-related projects while adhering to U.S. laws and regulations.
